- Voice Search and the Evolution of SEO – Our December blog noted that an increase in consumer use of services such as Alexa and Siri is driving a change in keyword strategies used by businesses. These technologies are going to be around for a while, so be sure to review your SEO best practices to take full advantage.
- Live Streams and Videos – We reported on our September blog that companies are anticipating a massive increase in live video usage, with Cisco projecting the growth to be 15-fold by 2022. With that large of a rapidly-expanding audience, it is clear that live streams cannot be ignored.
- Budget for Social Media Marketing – According to a report from The CMO Survey (which can be accessed here), social media spending has increased during the pandemic from roughly 13% of marketing budgets to just over 23%. People are spending more time than ever before on social media, meaning that companies not spending their money on social media marketing are potentially missing out on a sizeable audience.
- More Virtual Events – As reported by Forbes, events which went online because of the pandemic will likely stay online because of a better return-on-investment; they cost less for companies to host and allow for higher attendance with fewer barriers to entry.
While 2020 may have demonstrated how difficult it is to truly predict the future, utilizing all of these strategies will help stay ahead of the curve and keep your marketing strategies relevant. Social Media Marketing Predictions for 2021
2020 has been quite a year for social media marketing! Few could have predicted the immense role social media would play in everyone’s lives during 2020, from entertainment diversions to information dispersement to eCommerce. The rising demand accelerated some social media platforms’ tools development, but there’s even more to come in 2021. Here are some of the 25 predictions Social Media Today has made for the year 2021:

- Facebook – The development and push of Shops on Facebook and Instagram will let every business quickly and easily develop a digital storefront for customers to make purchases online. Along with the Shops push, Facebook will further develop Facebook Pay and the merger of its messaging apps, all in a focused push to make eCommerce an everyday occurrence.
- Twitter – Twitter is what Twitter has always been and always will be, a real-time stream of short news and information updates. There are some new updates and introductions coming down the pipe, including updates to Fleets (Twitters’ version of Stories), Audio Spaces (an audio meet-up feature), an expansion of recommended Topics to follow, and new verification categories so you know if you’re interacting with a real person or a bot.
- Instagram – Like its parent company, Facebook, you will see a focus on eCommerce development, including in-stream shopping, one-click purchasing, and new AR try-on tools to make it easier for customers to find the perfect outfit. It remains to be seen if Reels, Instagram’s TikTok clone, will take off or not. There’s potential there if they play their cards right.
- LinkedIn – While not as exciting as some other social media platforms, LinkedIn is expected to grow in popularity well beyond its current 700 million members. LinkedIn will continue to develop their live-stream functionality as a way to host virtual, low-cost events. Expect to also see LinkedIn put more focus on video, perhaps with a dedicated video section within the app that will include paid ads.
